CLINTON — Five local dancers from Dance Xtreme were selected for a unique opportunity to perform in the Moscow Ballet’s “The Great Russian Nutcracker” after an audition process held in August.
The dancers will be performing parts that include different characters from Tchaikovsky’s classic including Snowflakes, Snow Maidens, and Spanish dancers. The dancers include Vanessa Devore (age 9), Savanna Williamson (age 9), Jasmine Ferguson (age 14), Khloe Morlock (age 13) and Chelsea McKinzey (age 18). All dancers take technique and competition classes at Dance Xtreme, in Clinton.
Their teacher, Kim Alexander, said she was proud of this accomplishment because there were over 175 dancers who auditioned for the production, and to be a part of a professional ballet performance, “was truly an honor and a privilege,” she said.
“I’m truly proud of each of my dancers and for all the hard work they put in each and every day,” Alexander said.
Moscow Ballet’s presentation of “The Great Russian Nutcracker” will be held November 4, at Kirkland Fine Arts Center on Millikin University campus in Decatur.
This year marks Moscow Ballet’s 25th consecutive year touring North America.
