Local Scouting and National Boy Scout Week 2018

Being a Boy Scout is an experience that is much different than many other youth groups that are available today.  Scuba Diving, rock climbing, rappelling, zip lining, canoeing, fishing, camping, hiking, backpacking, and many other activities were done in 2017.

There are not many other opportunities out there for youth to get such a wide experience.  2018 proves to be even a more fun filled year for the Scouts as they are planning a trip to Sand Point Lake in Ontario, Canada.

The Boy Scout Troop is led by its youth members who are chosen by their peers.  Adult members or Scouters as they are called, serve as mentors for the youth in a Troop.  The Scouts choose what activities they want to do and where they want to do them.  The focus is on participating in citizenship; moral strength and character; and development of physical, mental, emotional fitness.  Our values are based upon the Scout Oath and Scout Law.

While the young men have a lot of fun, in 2017 Scouts and adult Scouters donated well over 1,000 hours of community service to Clinton and the surrounding area.  This included roadside cleanups, community food drive, cleaning up after the Apple n’ Pork Festival, helping with the Weldon Springs fishing derby, Black Locust Youth Campground, and other service projects in the area.

We are very proud of our three Eagle Scout Projects that were completed in 2017 as well.  One Life Scout built a trailer for the Honor Guard of Clinton, the other two Life Scouts completed their projects at Weldon Springs revitalizing the Lone Oak Amphitheater.  In 2018 we expect to have a few more Eagle Scout projects completed as well.

Boy Scout Troop 142 Scouts currently consists of young men between the ages of 11 and 18 who mostly attend Clinton High School and Junior High School.  We also have a few members from Blue Ridge Schools and St Theresa High School.

The Troop has been in existence for over 30 years and some of the early members of the unit are still involved today.  If you would like to learn more about scouting please visit www.clintontroop142.com or email the Scoutmaster atclintontroop142@gmail.com.
