CLINTON — On Monday March 20, at approximately 6:40 a.m., Clinton Police and Fire Departments, Dewitt County Sheriff’s Department and Dewitt County EMS were dispatched to the intersection of Ill. Route 54 at E. Washington Street for the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.
Upon arrival, responding units learned that William H. Towns, 85, Clinton, was walking westbound across Ill. Route 54 near the intersection of E. Washington Street, when he was struck by a car traveling westbound on Route 54.
Towns was transported via ambulance to Warner Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The investigation is ongoing and an autopsy was scheduled for Monday afternoon in McLean County.
Clinton Police are being assisted by the Illinois State Police and the Dewitt County Coroner’s Office.
