Marjorie was born on May 14, 1918, in Crow Agency, Mont., the daughter of J.R. and Maud (Billings) Johnson. She moved to Watauga, Tenn. at an early age and grew up there. She graduated from Happy Valley High School. Marjorie married Frank Hayes in Bristol, Va.in 1939. In 1990 she married Robert Spencer in Clinton. She was a great caretaker of both of them before they preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, sister: Eloise Phillips, grandson: Paul Michael Hayes and step grandson: Sean Rogers.
Frank and Marjorie moved to Clinton in 1951, where she lived until her health needs required her to move to Mill Pond Retirement Community in Ankeny, Iowa, in 2005.
Some of the great loves of her life were her family, her friends and her faith in Jesus Christ. She was a very active member of First Baptist Church in Clinton, as long as health allowed. She loved to teach the Bible to children in Sunday School Classes and Back Yard Bible Clubs. She also regularly shared her faith with teens and adults throughout her life.
She was known for and enjoyed being a fine homemaker, fantastic cook, wonderful hostess, a very happy and friendly lady with a southern accent and charm. She worked as a telephone operator and dental assistant. In later years she also enjoyed Wii Bowling and Bingo with friends at Mill Pond.
Left to cherish her memory is a daughter: Judy (Russell) Delaney of Lecanto, Fla.; son: Joe (Marty Abbott) Hayes of Ankeny, Iowa; step daughter: Dianne Rogers of Cumming, Ga.; grandchildren: Sheila (Jeff) Clark, Allen, Texas, Karen (Paul) Findling, Tampa, Fla., James Hayes, Overland Park, Kan., John (Deb) Hayes, Grand Island, Neb., Dan (Trish) Hayes, Shawnee, Kan.; step grandson: Bryan Rogers, Cumming, Ga.; 13 great -grandchildren; nephew, Jack (Marilyn) Phillips, Hudson, Ill., and other relatives and friends.
Mom, we are looking forward to seeing you again soon and forever.
The family would like to extend a sincere “Thank You” to the staff at Mill Pond, many other medical personnel and her dentist for their wonderful care of Mom.
