Maroons capitalize on Raiders’ pitching trouble with 3-2 win

CLINTON — April 11 saw the Maroons taking the diamond against the Central A&M Raiders.

The Raiders wasted no time in getting on the board with a run in the first inning.  Then, in the third inning, the opposition added another run to seemingly be on the way to a win.

The Raiders’ pitching held the Maroons scoreless through 6 innings.  But the 7th inning proved fatal for the Raiders.  After walking one Maroon and hitting three other batters, one run had crossed the plate.

With two out, catcher Wes Harrold (#3) stepped to the plate and hit a game winning single, driving in 2 more runs for the Maroons’ 3-2 win.

Josh Carter (1-0) got the win going all seven innings.  Harrold led the offense with a 2-4 outing at the plate, including the game winning single.
