Maroons dominate Turks in 43-6 delayed-game win

DEER CREEK — The Clinton Maroons were set to play the Tremont Turks under the “Friday Night Lights,” but lightning kept delaying the game.

Then, came a deluge of rain.  Delays continued until around 11 p.m., when officials decided to postpone the game until the next day.  This meant finding another field of play, since the Maroons Cross Country teams had their cross country run scheduled for that evening with approximately 20 teams involved.

A neutral field of play was found in Deer Creek-Mackinaw.  As of this writing, the full stats had not come in to the Journal, but the Maroons won the game 43-6.

The Maroons took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter and then added an astounding 21 more points in the second quarter.  Coming out after halftime, the Maroons continued to roll for another 7 points, giving them a 35-point lead going into the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter,  the Maroons’ defense finally cracked and allowed the Turks to score 6 points on a touchdown but no extra point.

The offense didn’t crack, though,  and scored 8 points in the final stanza for the 43-6 win.
