Clinton’s pitches were good, Jacksonville’s bats were hotter.

CLINTON — The Maroons were able to squeeze in one final home game before regional play began on May 25.
The Maroons faced the Jacksonville High School Crimsons. The game began well for the Maroons as they answered Jacksonville’s one run in the first inning with 4 runs of their own.
However, the Crimsons kept chipping away one run at a time until the fourth inning when they exploded for three runs to take the lead, 6-4. The Crimsons then added 2 more in the fifth and one each in the sixth and seventh innings.
The Maroons had a couple of opportunities that they couldn’t capitalize on, ending the game with a 4-10 loss. The Maroons ended their regular season at 11-14, while Jacksonville ended at 15-15.
Mac Hickman hit 2-3 and Travis Osgood hit 2-4 to lead the Maroons. Clinton used five pitchers in preparation for regional play, Jacksonville used four. Logan Peterson (0-1) took the loss for Clinton. The Maroons will have next played (by press time) the Lincoln Railsplitters in the Lincoln Regional on Thursday, May 25.
On an upside to the game (and the last few home games), at the beginning of the games with the flag raised in right field, both teams have lined the base paths in front of their respective dugouts and saluted as the National Anthem has been played.
