CLINTON — The Maroons hosted the Clinton Tournament on Saturday, April 8. The teams in the tournament included Harvest Christian Academy of Elgin, North Mac from Virden, Tri-Valley from Downs, and the host Maroons.
The Maroons faced the Tri-Valley Vikings in the first game, taking the early lead 4-0 by the second inning. The Vikings finally stormed the field with four runs of their own in the third and another in the fourth for a one run lead.
Then in the sixth inning both teams scored a run, still leaving the home team down by one. The Vikings added an insurance run in the 7th inning to take a 7-5 win.
During the fifth inning the Maroons threatened with the bases loaded but could not get a runner across the plate. Travis Osgood (1-1) took the loss for the Maroons with Wesley Conn 1 for 4 innings of relief.
Next up for the Maroons in game #3 were the North Mac Panthers. In this matchup the Panthers scored one in the top of the first inning with Clinton coming back with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning to take the early lead. T
he Panthers then added three runs in the 4th to come within one, but the Maroons added two more of their own runs to push the lead to 3 points. North Mac then added one in the fifth inning before exploding in the seventh for 5 runs for the lead.
The hometown Maroons were only able to add one more run in the seventh to fall 8-10. Keaton Thayer started the game for the Maroons, was relieved by Levi Nettles (0-1) in the 7th, who was relieved by Wes Conn to pitch the final out.
The Maroons are now 4-5 overall and 1-2 in the CIC.
For the tournament, Tri-Valley took the championship, Harvest Christian and North Mac tied at 1-1, while Clinton finished 0-2. Clinton had good offense and defense throughout the day, but lost in the late innings of both games.
