CLINTON — On the evening of October 2, the Sullivan Redskins again invaded the friendly home confines of the Maroons Sprague Field, this time with their junior varsity football team.
Their hopes of avenging their team’s varsity loss the prior Friday were quickly dashed by the first play of the game. Sullivan elected to kick off to the Maroons. As the kick squirted around on the ground, Tyrese Petty (#3) picked up the pigskin on the 5 yard line and raced by everyone with a few good blocks by his teammates for the first of several Maroon touchdowns (TDs) on the evening. And yes, it was a 95 yard kick-off run back.
The Maroons scored another TD about half way through the quarter for a 14-0 lead. In the second quarter the Maroons scored another 2 TDs, the first by Tyrese Petty (#3) again and the second on an interception of a Redskin pass, which gave the hometown team a 30-0 lead at halftime.
The Maroons then topped off their scoring in the second half with single TDs in each of the final 2 quarters. The final outcome was Clinton 44, Sullivan 0.
