CLINTON — During June, the C.H. Moore Homestead DeWitt County Museum presented “Quilted Keepsakes,” a quilt show featuring nearly 50 quilts displayed throughout the mansion. The exhibit included antique quilts from the museum collection, private collections, and contemporary pieces loaned by local quilters.
More than 200 visitors toured the mansion and viewed the quilts. They also voted for their favorite pieces of needlework. This year, the viewers’ favorite quilt award went to Lynette Miller-Ishmael for her “Iris” applique quilt.
The quilt was created by Miller-Ishmael’s maternal grandmother, Etoile Wilkey who was born in 1896 and spent her life as a homemaker residing in Maroa. When Wilkey passed in 1977, the quilt began its journey being passed down through the family.
Miller-Ishmael, who has owned the quilt for four years, relayed that her grandmother’s faith was so strong that she never stitched on a Sunday.
The Quilted Keepsakes Quilt Show is an annual event. Miller-Ishmael’s outstanding quilt will be honorably displayed during next year’s “Quilted Keepsakes” quilt show.
