CLINTON — A child reported missing early Tuesday was found safe about an hour and a half later.
Clinton Police responded to a report of 2-year-old boy missing from his home in the 1500 block of E. Main Street at about 6:15 a.m. on Tuesday. The boy’s mother reported she awoke and her son was missing from the home, according to police.
Clinton Police and Clinton Fire Department requested mutual aid and additional resources, set up a perimeter and began a coordinated search.
At about 7:36 a.m., searchers found the boy safe in the 1500 block of E. South Street. He was transported to Warner Hospital for evaluation and was later released to his family, police reported.
“These are among the most emotionally taxing responses known to emergency services,” said police chief Ben Lowers. “The mass response and assistance from all agencies involved is appreciated beyond words, and we could not have wished for a more positive outcome.”
Lowers reminded parents to make every effort to keep curious children safe.
DeWitt County Sheriff’s Office, DeWitt County CenCom, DeWitt County EMA, DeWitt County Search & Rescue, Illinois State Police District 6, Illinois State Police Zone 5, Kenney Fire Department, Maroa Fire Department, Wapella Fire Department, Waynesville Fire Department, Weldon Fire Department and the American Red Cross assisted in the search and investigation.
