Nancy C. Bunchman

SPRINGFIELD — Nancy C. Bunchman, 80, of Springfield, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, August 3, 2022.   

Nancy was born on February 3, 1942, to Ada Rose and Harlan T. Donaldson, in Clinton. 

She graduated from Mennonite Hospital School of Nursing in 1963 and worked for the State of Illinois Department of Rehabilitation Services as a registered nurse until her retirement. Nancy was involved in various volunteer activities including paren/teacher organizations at Christian Elementary School and Griffin High School, and the SHARE program at St. John’s Hospital, among many others.

In 1984, she wrote a small book to help children understand death.  Book sales helped support the SHARE program, and for this, she received the Volunteer of the Year award from the American Hospital Association.  Nancy belonged to the World Wildlife Fund, Sierra Club, Audubon Society and Chapter BF, PEO Sisterhood.

In 1994, Nancy married Kenneth A. Bunchman of Springfield. They traveled the world before becoming snowbirds and wintering in New Mexico until Ken’s death in 2012.   

 Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; her younger brother, Philip Donaldson; and her husband. 

Nancy is survived by her son, James W. Dodge (Cyndi) of Springfield; grandchildren, James A. Dodge (Emily) of Traverse City, Mich., and Adrienne Dodge of Springfield; and  three great-grandchildren, Charlie, Nora and Jamie.

Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. 

At Nancy’s request, a private family memorial service will be held at a later date and her cremated remains will be spread on the Isle of Skye, in Scotland.
