CLINTON — City commissioners Monday discussed an appointment to assistant fire chief in hopes of avoiding earlier experiences with fire department positions. Ultimately, they voted to approve the appointment.
Commissioner of public health and safety Dan Ballenger presented a motion to name his son, Dan Ballenger, Jr., to one of the fire department’s two assistant fire chief positions. Commissioner John Wise, who seconded the motion, also asked council members to consider the appointment carefully.
Issues of commissioners’ family members being promoted to positions of authority in the fire department is something with which the council has experience.
“I think Danny is very well qualified,” Wise said.
