New CJHS softball coach takes to the practice field

CLINTON — Along with some previous players at the junior high tryouts, there were some new faces to see on the field of play, including that of new softball coach Kellie Elbert.

Coach Kellie began as a standout pitcher for the Lady Potters from Morton, Ill.  She continued her academic career, first at Cedarville University in Ohio, then at Illinois State University in Normal from which she graduated in December of 2015.

As for coaching experience, she was an assistant coach at Leroy (Tri-Valley) while student teaching and then moved to an assistant coaching stint with Olympia schools after graduation.  She is excited at being the coach at Clinton Junior High and being able to lend her knowledge of the game to her players.  She will also be teaching 6th grade Citizenship and 7th grade English at the junior high.

Coach Kellie is also excited about the start of the season as the first two games are against Tri-Valley Lady Vikings (her coaching start) and her alma mater Morton Lady Potters. And somewhere along the way the Olympia Lady Spartans are sure to show up.

Along with the familiar faces on the field was that of Coach Kellie’s assistant coach, none other than Mike Nunnery.  Coach Nunnery will again coach on the softball diamond.

He and Coach Kellie said they have a good working relationship already and both have a lot of knowledge of the game to pass on to their players.
