CLINTON—The third brick building on the square, built by Dr. John Warner and James Lintner and opened in 1857, now is home to MR Systems Technologies, an urban loft on the top floor and “Rebecca’s Rest Stop” on the second.  The DeWitt County Restoration Association will feature the penthouse living quarters of Rebecca and Duffy Haremaker, as well as the sleeping rooms on the second floor, during their summer Tour of Homes Sunday, August 6, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

“This building alone is worth the $10 price of a ticket,” said DCRA Chairman Becky Adams.  Tickets will be available next week at the Chamber of Commerce, among other spots.

The top floor, an open area originally designed as the meeting room for the local lodge of the International Order of Oddfellows, now is an airy, spacious living area.  During their renovations, the Haremakers discovered three original skylights, now illuminating the kitchen, bath and hallway.

Besides the skylight, the bath features a Jacuzzi and a steam shower and is adjacent to a walk-in closet.  The huge living room/dining area/kitchen is made for comfort and fun, with a billiards table, dartboard, an added fireplace, and lots of comfortable seating.   The master bedroom also has seating and a large office area.

The Haremakers did all the construction work themselves on their floor and on the second floor, which has six sleeping rooms, a shared kitchen, dining room, and living room, as well as multiple baths and showers for their guests.  They were able to preserve 90 percent of the original trim, as well as the original doors and transoms.  They did replace all the windows.

While there is no elevator, people who cannot handle stairs can still view the two gardens and other four buildings featured on the DCRA tour.
