CLINTON — The Illinois State Police are handling the investigation into a single-vehicle rollover accident that occurred Tuesday afternoon on the Rt. 51 bypass.
The accident occurred in the southbound lanes of Rt. 51. Police blocked and/or detoured traffic in both directions from Walnut Street at Rt. 51 south to the Rt. 10 and Rt. 51 intersection.
All four victims were reported to have serious injuries. One was airlifted from the scene by helicopter.
Just before the accident scene was cleared, 911 dispatchers reported one of the victims said three children were involved, not two. As authorities called out Search and Rescue personnel to search for another victim, it was confirmed that all were accounted for, and the report was erroneous.
No other information was available at press time.
