At approximately 9:44 p.m. on Friday Nov. 15, Clinton Police and emergency medical personnel responded to an address in the 500 block of East Macon Street, Clinton, for the report of an unresponsive 10-year-old female. At 10:56 p.m., Dewitt County Coroner Randy Rice pronounced the child deceased at Warner Hospital. The investigation is ongoing.
Clinton Police Chief Ben Lowers said, “While we will be able to determine ‘what happened’, the most troubling is to understand the ‘why,’ and that is something we hope we’re able to piece together in order to prevent future tragedies of this nature.”
Assisting Clinton Police with the investigation is the DeWitt County Coroner’s Office and Illinois State Police.
Clinton School District officials were notified and appropriate measures are being taken to assist school staff and students.
No further information will be released at this time, said Lowers.
