Rams over Hornets 11-10 at home

Marc Rogers / Journal — The Rams bats started late, but got the job done.

CLINTON —The summer season is suffering a slow start due to a week of rainy weather.  This past week, there were a couple of games played on dry ground to get things kicked off.

First up were the Rams 10-under baseball team playing here at home at the Clinton High School west softball field against the Heyworth Hornets.  The opposition wasted no time in letting the home team know they had come to play ball.

The Hornets scored 5 runs on 1 hit and 2 errors in the top of the first inning.  These were unanswered by the Rams.

In the top of the second, the Hornets scored 3 more runs on 4 hits.  By this time, the home team Rams had experienced enough.

In the bottom of the second inning the Rams exploded with 10 runs on 4 hits, 5 walks, a hit batter and an error.  The top of the third inning saw the hornets struggle back with two runs to tie the game.

With a new pitcher, the Rams held in the fourth inning, while pushing across a go ahead run.  The Hornets made a last gasp try in the top of the fifth inning with time running out but fell short.

The Rams came away with the 11-10 win to start the season.
