CLINTON — On a beautiful Tuesday for baseball, the hometown Central Illinois Revolution played a ballgame against the Roanoke-Benson Rockets. The visitors were at a slight disadvantage with only nine players in the game.
The Revolution began the fireworks in the bottom of the first after Parker West got on with a single and Lane Mayfield hit a double to drive West across the plate. Then, in the third inning, West again got on base with a single, this time being sent home by a Logan Peterson double.
To follow that, West walked in the fifth and was chased home by a Peyton Mayfield double (keeping the odd inning scoring alive). During all this exchange of singles and doubles, Keaton Thayer was having a great day on the mound, pitching no-hit baseball through five innings.
Through the first five innings Keaton faced just three batters an inning. In the sixth the lead-off batter reached base for a single before being stranded on base when the next three hitters went down in order. Keaton struck out 10 batters and had excellent backup from his fielders on the other outs.
The seventh was not good to Thayer as the Rockets led off with a double, a hit batsman, and another double for a run and forcing a Revolution pitching change. After the change, the next three batters went down in order. This gave the Revolution a 3-1 victory for the afternoon’s effort.
