CLINTON — The 2017 Midwest Slugfest III baseball tournament was held on Saturday and Sunday, July 8 and 9.
The main event is held in Decatur at three different diamonds and for the past couple of years, Evans Field, in Clinton, has been the fourth venue for the games. The Central Illinois Revolution (Clinton’s home travel team) have been able to participate in the event for a couple of years.
Teams this year came from eight different states to play in the four sessions, the final session coming up this weekend, July 15 and 16.
In the past teams from Canada have played in the Slugfest. Each team plays four games and plays on several venues with many college coaches in attendance scouting players.
The Revolution began play at home against the Clare Bears (from Michigan). The Revolution held their own for the first three innings to keep within one run before the Bears became stingy on defense and their bats began exploding for an 8-3 win.
The Revolution then moved to Hess Park, in Decatur, where they lost to the Beardstown Tigers.
On Sunday morning, the Revolution faced the Blue Crew at MacArthur High School and lost again. However, Sunday afternoon saw the Revolution win their final game against one of the host teams, the Macon County Jokers White team. Ironically the Revolution took 7th place in the consolation bracket, while their first opponent, the Clare Bears took 7th place in the championship bracket.
The Revolution will complete their season at the Battle in Bourbonnais in Northern Illinois this coming weekend.
