Rotary hosts annual alumni games at CHS

CLINTON — On Saturday, March 25, the CHS gymnasium saw the return, for better or worse, of Maroons players from the past.  The annual event is hosted by the Clinton Rotary to raise funds for the local Habitat for Humanity organization.

There was a moderate crowd on hand to cheer for the heroes of yesteryear and their skills from years gone by.  Terry Ijams, who has filled this capacity for over 20 years, was again the host for the Rotary.

During the break in the game action, a short ceremony was held during which WHOW presented the Rotary with $200 for Habitat and the Clinton Athletic Boosters donated $250 to Habitat.

The evening began with the Lady Maroons volleyball match, and these ladies can still play.

The first set went to the Gold team in a close 25-21 win.  The Maroons team then fought back in an even closer set to win 25-23, evening the match.

Due to lack of oxygen and a throwback to olden days, the third “tie breaker” set was played only to 15 points, which the Gold team reached with ease wining the set 15-6 and the match 2-1.

Next up were the Maroons basketball players.  This game went four quarters and had many substitutions; at first by platooning, then as needed for resuscitation.

Although the Gold team held its own and led for a time, the Maroons team seemed to have control of the game with leads at halftime and at the game’s end.

The Maroons team won 60-52 to cap the evening.
