CLINTON — After a short practice season (approximately ten days), the Clinton Junior High Lady Maroons softball team is now in game mode.
The team home opener was played on Friday, August 16 against an ever tough opponent, the Tri-Valley Lady Vikings from Downs. This team has always been strong on skills and dominant on all levels.
In the “A” game, the Lady Vikings hit the diamond in full attack mode in the first inning, dropping bunts and running full-tilt on the base paths. This was the beginning of the end for the home team.
The opposition seemed to score at will with runs in every inning, 13 in all, on 17 hits. The Lady Maroons had players in scoring position on three occasions but could not complete the job.
The home team tallied only 7 hits in the game. Catcher and field captain Heidi Humble went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Lady Maroons offense. The home team committed only three strike outs, but couldn’t get the hits past the infield, bowing to a 13-0 loss..
The following “B” game was a little better for the Lady Maroons, who took the early lead in the first with one run. The home team added two more in the second inning and held the 3-0 lead into the final inning when the Lady Vikings exploded for four runs and the 4-3 win.
