CLINTON — Local sales tax revenue was up for the latest period, but city commissioner Tom Edmunds pointed out on Monday it was due primarily to the State of Illinois’ new accounting system.
“I think they’re finally getting it straightened out,” Edmunds said during Monday’s regular city council meeting.
Clinton sales tax revenue was up about $17,000 over the previous period in 2016.
“That’s a huge increase, the biggest monthly increase so far this year,” Edmunds said. “But, there’s no rhyme nor reason for it; I think it’s just their accounting system getting straightened out.”
Edmunds said it was the same situation with non-home rule taxes, “only not as exaggerated.”
With both types of taxes, the city was ahead of last year. However, Edmunds said, the city was still slightly under what it budgeted.
