Schools await state guidelines for reopening

CLINTON — State guidelines about reopening schools in the fall is expected to be received this week, Clinton Superintendent Curt Nettles told board members Tuesday night during a socially distanced meeting held at the high school.
Nettles has formed a School Open Strategy Team that will come together as soon as the state releases its guidelines. The team includes teachers, administrators, board members, support staff, coaches, school nurses, food service staff, and a representative from the health department.
“We want to do what’s right for Clinton and our families,” Nettles said, adding he is anxious to see the guidelines and get started on a plan because “this not knowing is getting a little difficult.”
In other business, the board:

• Approved the transfer of $1 million from the working cash fund to the education fund to cover approved expenses.  
• Introduced Leslie Albee as the new assistant principal at Clinton Junior High School
• Awaits confirmation about the annual Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) meeting in November in Chicago. Clinton High School principal Jerry Wayne and others are scheduled to present about teen mental health first aid.
• Cancelled the July board meeting.
• Approved the employment of Elena Dagner, teacher aide at Douglas; Mally Hickman, freshman volleyball coach; Kathy Murphy, Lincoln cafeteria manager; Dillon Turner, CJHS custodian; Carlisha Applewhite, CJHS PE teacher; Jeffrey Prickett, CHS PE teacher and JV baseball coach; Morgan HIckman, CHS head volleyball coach; Alisha Donner, CJHS girls’ track coach, Rebecca Wheat, CJHS aide.
