CLINTON — Although the schedules that this reporter has been following show the summer leagues done for the season, games were found still being played on the softball diamonds.
The Girls Softball Association 10-U Maroon team (sponsored by DeWitt Savings Bank [DSB]) was on the main high school diamond for a double header the other evening.
First on the agenda was a State Farm Blue team. These are timed events and you can only score five runs in an inning. The first game was timed out after three innings. The DSB Maroon team scored first with two runs in the first inning. The Blue team then chipped into the lead with a run of their own in the second inning. The Blue team then unleashed a myriad of five runs in the third inning to take the lead for good. The Maroon team plated a run in the third and had the bases loaded, but that was the end with the State Farm Blue team winning 6-3.
Next on the evening's menu was the Maroon team facing the Rich's Heating & Cooling Hawks.
The Hawks flew into action immediately with five runs in the first inning followed by a Maroons four run shove in the bottom of the frame. The second inning saw the Rich's team held scoreless while the Maroon team racked up five runs. Rich's Hawks had one final chance in the third inning, loading the bases, but then striking out to end their threat. The game ended there due to darkness with the DSB Maroon team winning 9-5.
