CLINTON — The DeWitt County Soil & Water Conservation District’s 75th Annual Meeting & Celebration has been set for Friday, February 22, , at The Abagail, in Clinton. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m., with a buffet breakfast, served at 8 a.m.

CLINTON — The DeWitt County Soil & Water Conservation District’s 75th Annual Meeting & Celebration has been set for Friday, February 22, , at The Abagail, in Clinton. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m., with a buffet breakfast, served at 8 a.m.

This year the guest speaker is Dr. A. Lane Rayburn, Crop Science Professor from the University of Illinois. His presentation will be “ Farming: With great power comes great responsibility.”, Dr. Rayburn grew up in a small town in central Louisiana, Pineville. He joined the University of Illinois in 1988 as an Assistant Professor, his primary focus was research on crops including corn and soybeans. To date he has over 130 research publications. In 2007, he turned his major attention to teaching. Two of his popular undergraduate courses are an introduction to agriculture for both agriculture and nonagricultural majors. The presentation will look back beginning with the dust bowl era to current time with facts, history and change with the Agriculture industry mixing in humor and wit.

A short business meeting will be held. Two people will be elected each for a two-year term a member of the Board of Directors. Highlights of the past 75 years will be featured.

There is no charge for attendance; although donations will be accepted at the door to help offset the cost of the meal.
