Suspect in home invasion captured quickly

CLINTON — The suspect in a Sunday morning home invasion on Route 10, two miles east of Clinton, was apprehended in only 15 minutes according to a DeWitt County Sheriff's report.
Gregory Earl, 32, of Phoenix Arizona, has been charged with felony burglary, felony theft, possession of stolen property and several misdemeanor charges, according to DeWitt County Sheriff Jered Shofner.
Shofner said a call came into 911 operators at 10:20 a.m. after Earl allegedly demanded keys to a vehicle at the address. After the homeowner told Earl to leave, a physical altercation took place.
Earl was apprehended at 10:35 a.m. on Route 51 where he was found to be driving a vehicle reported stolen out of McLean County. He remains in the DeWitt County Jail on a bond set at $50,000.
While this suspect was apprehended quickly, Shofner reminds residents to report any suspicious people or activity. He also recommended people keep their doors locked.
"Locked doors are the best prevention," he stated.
