CLINTON — The First Christian Church will host its third annual community block party from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 27.
The first block party the church hosted in 2015 attracted about twice as many people as organizers expected, and in 2016, that number increased by about a third to over 500 visitors. Pastor Greg Taylor and minister of children Allison Hitchings think the event could attract as many as 1,000 people.
“It’s just a gift to our community,” Taylor says. “How, as a church, can we better serve the community.”
“They’ll be inflatables and games for kids, BINGO for adults, and Dick Graves is setting up a pickle ball court,” Taylor said.
BINGO will be held inside the church, the rest of the block party will take place in the church’s parking lot across Jackson Street.
The Zoo Lady will do some face painting, and there will be a petting zoo, snow cones and free food, walking tacos, hotdogs, chips, cookies and drinks.
There also will be performers Marcia Wise, 5:15-5:45 p.m., and The Prodigal Worship Band, 6-6:45 p.m.
Residents are invited to attend, and they may come and go at any time, sort of like a fair. The event is free.
