Two victims of Tuesday crash airlifted to Carle Hospital

CLINTON — Area emergency personnel responded late Tuesday afternoon to a single-vehicle accident west of Clinton on Burns Hill Road.
A resident in the area reported the accident to CenCom dispatch and reported the car was on its roof and one occupant of the vehicle was calling for help.
Dispatchers requested a pair of emergency medical airlift helicopters for the two occupants of the vehicle. Sheriff Mike Walker told the Clinton Journal the accident occurred just before the first major hill on Burns Hill Road west of the Rt. 51 intersection. He said the vehicle sustained major damage.
Walker said it appeared the driver lost control of the vehicle, left the road and struck some trees. Names of the occupants are being withheld because they are minors.
The first helicopter arrived within about 20-30 minutes and flew the first occupant to be extricated from the wreck to Carle Hospital, Champaign, Walker said. He said it took more than an hour to extricate the second victim because of the way the vehicle was positioned. That person also was airlifted to Carle Hospital.
The helicopters were able to land in an area near the accident.
Kenney and Maroa fire departments also responded to the scene. Maroa firefighters worked to secure a second landing zone, if necessary.
