NORMAL — William L. “Sonny” Neal, 78, of Normal, Ill., passed away at 11:10 p.m. on June 25, 2017, at McLean County Nursing Home, Norma.

Masonic services will be conducted at 7 p.m. on  Thursday, June 29, 2017, at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton.  Religious services will follow with J. Kent Hickerson officiating.  Visitation will be held from 5–7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s education fund.

Sonny was born on March 13, 1939, in Bloomington, Ill., the son of Wilbur and Florence (Black) Neal.  He married Norma J. Spencer on August 10, 1958, in Clinton.  

Survivors include his wife, Norma J. Neal, Normal; children,  Michael K. Neal, Normal, and Mark S. Neal, Normal; two grandchildren,Jordan (Daniella) Neal, Wapella, and Nathan (Brittany) Neal, Niles, Mich.; two great-grandchildren,  Sophia Neal and Wyatt Neal; sister, Martha (Joe) Underwood, Clinton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Betty Baker.

 Sonny retired from GTE and then worked for Busey Bank.  He enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping, hunting, and boating.  Sonny was a member of the DeWitt Masonic Lodge #84 AF & AM for 50 years.  He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
