Wind farm developer not benevolent

Wind farm development supporters have encouraged us to be forward-thinking and to seek the facts.  One of my greatest concerns is Tradewind has done very little to address the project’s future when its turbines are at the end of their life spans and projected costs to decommission one tower range from $40,000 to $225,000, which for 68 towers amounts to $2.72 million to $15.3 million.  That’s 12 percent to 70 percent of the projected net revenue income of $22 million touted by Tradewind.

Do we want to add miles of land dotted with derelict relics from a short-lived promise of economic gain?  And, will research indicating real estate values aren’t adversely affected by wind development still ring true in 20 years?

Facts support that building one wind turbine requires 900 tons of steel, 2.500 tons of concrete and 45 tons of plastic.  Also, climate change does exist.  For billions of years, our planet has undergone warming and cooling cycles.  However, isn’t it naïve to ignore “green” energy is built using tons of coal and oil, not to mention the tons of waste that will be generated when the turbines wear out?  Bottom line:  Tradewind is a corporation that has already spent millions of dollars to achieve its agenda with the ultimate goal to sell us what they’re selling, not to save the planet nor act benevolently to do what is in the best interests of the residents of DeWitt County.
