CLINTON — The woes continue for the Clinton High School Maroon basketball teams.
On Tuesday, , the teams faced conference foe St. Teresa. The Bulldogs (St. Teresa) had a rough early season but are on the mend.
Unfortunately, the hometown Maroons haven't found that point yet. The junior varsity (JV) team started with a hiccup but rallied to trail by only five points at halftime. The Bulldogs widened the margin in the third quarter and then in the fourth quarter someone let all the "Dawgs" out as they scored 26 points to put the game away.
St. Teresa won the game 53-28. Aidan Shanks (#13) led the Maroons with 10 points. Ethanson (#35) led the Bulldogs with 16 points, ten of which were in the fourth quarter.
Next on the floor were the varsity teams.
The Maroons were out gunned, out rebounded, out hustled, and all around out played in this showing. The Maroons were behind the proverbial "8 ball" from the start, scoring only single digits in all four quarters and having no player in double digits.
Zeke Hickman led the Maroons with seven points. As for the Bulldogs, they scored in double digits in the first three quarters and had three players in double digits, winning 65-24. This outing puts the Maroons at 4-16 on the season and 0-3 in conference play.
On a better note, this evening was designated as Clinton Youth Basketball Night and Coaches Against Cancer (CFC) Night. All during the games there was a bake sale in the high school commons to raise money for the CFC cause and the athletic department supplied each of the referees with a pink whistle, which they used. Then at halftime, all of the Clinton Youth Basketball (CYB) players and coaches were introduced and the fans got to see the future Clinton Maroons coming up through the system.
