Applications open for First National Bank annual REV business pitch competition

CLINTON — First National Bank and Trust Company is now accepting applications for its annual REV event, a pitch competition offering entrepreneurs and business owners the chance to win up to $10,000.

The bank partners with the DeWitt County Economic Development Council to help provide this opportunity for business growth.

Applicants will be judged on their pitch, marketing, personal investment level and exit strategy. Think the NBC television hit “Shark Tank,” on a smaller scale.

The bank and council will accept five businesses into the competition. Entrants will have ten minutes to pitch their business concepts to a panel four of judges, followed by questions from the panel of judges, made up of bank officials and other area business and development stakeholders.

“REV is such an exciting time for our institution as we learn about many of the great ideas and initiatives of our local small businesses,” First National Bank President Josh Shofner said. “We look forward to Igniting Prosperity in more local businesses as part of our ongoing commitment to the community.”

The pitches will start at 1 p.m. on Nov. 1 at the First National Bank, 2 Kelli Court.

Applications are due by Oct. 14.

First National Bank and Trust started REV three years ago in an effort to spur economic growth and encourage business owners to continue pursuing their dreams. During the first two competitions the bank awarded $20,000 to winners.

Judges chose three winners last year, giving $5,000 to Hasler’s Double D Ranch of Farmer City for excavation and drainage work to allow for a parking area for horse clinic attendees, $3,000 to The Vault of Clinton to purchase tables, chairs and other items for use in renting out the facility to help generate income and $2,000 to My Little World Children’s Boutique and More of Maroa for use on a customized tent to increase awareness at outdoor events.
