Clinton School Board approves fiscal year 2025 budget

CLINTON — School board members approved the new fiscal year 2025 budget for the district during their September 17 meeting.  Superintendent Drew Goebel went over specifics of the budget during the board’s August meeting.

During last week’s budget hearing, held at the start of the board meeting, Goebel reminded board members that salaries and benefits were not included in the survey he presented in August because staff was still entering that information.

“Those have all been added, so now, these are the final numbers from this year,” Goebel said.

He added there would be an amended budget hearing next June, as usual.

Most money the school district receives comes from property taxes, Goebel said, primarily because of the value of Clinton Power Station.  The district also receives CPPRT (Personal Property Replacement tax) revenue, estimated to be about $1.6 million, evidence-based funding, about $2.1 million in 2025, and federal grants, about $32,000.

“The big one for us is our property taxes,” Goebel said.  “The value of property goes up, typically, but our tax rate stays the same.”

He said Clinton had the lowest tax rate in the area, 3.56 percent.

The district levies a percentage of the tax rate for each of the district’s funds, which are designated for specific purposes, education fund, operations and maintenance, working cash, etc.

Tax revenue to the district will be up this year, based on equalized assessed valuation (EAV), at $20.6 million, up from the previous year of $18.9 million.
