Council hears about 175MW solar project

The 825-acre plan much larger than community solar projects

CLINTON — The solar energy presentations keep coming as companies take advantage of the state’s encouraging policies toward developing the industry in Illinois.

Community solar projects have increased 30 percent since 2021 because of the state’s solar policies and incentives.  Another in a line of companies presented its plan last week to the city council.

The city heard recently about a much larger solar project.  Chase Ford, senior development manager with Nexamp, gave a survey of the company’s proposed Prairie Flats solar project during last week’s city council meeting.

The 825-acre project is much larger than the 20-60-acre plans the council previously has been approached about.

“I really wanted to talk through our project, where it stands with the city and also touch on who Nexamp is,” Ford said.
