CLINTON — Don C. Niederer, 92, of Clinton, passed peacefully with his wife and family by his side at Carle BroMenn Medical Center, Normal, at 4:45 p.m. on May 24, 2025.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025 starting at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church Great Hall, 308 E. Main Street, Clinton, with a luncheon to follow at noon.
Don was born on July 4, 1932, in Havana, Ill. to Adolph and Edna Niederer. He graduated from Havana High School and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1952, where he served on the front lines in the Korean War.
After returning from the Korean War, he traveled throughout many states with his job and met Delores John, in Gering, Neb. They met on June 1, 1956, and he married his beloved wife, Delores, on September 21, 1956. Together they raised three children, Terry, Randy and Cindy. They were married for 68 years and would have celebrated 69 years in September.
They moved to Illinois in 1961 and lived in Havana, where they opened and ran the Duck Inn Restaurant until moving to Clinton, in 1968, where they have lived since. Don was a quiet man with unwavering love for his wife and children. He enjoyed working in construction, selling insurance for Prudential and Aflac and raising cattle and chickens.
Don was a devoted husband and family man who enjoyed spending time with his wife Delores and their three children. He loved having wiener roasts with his family and friends in Clinton and picnics along the Illinois River, in Havana.
When his grandchildren arrived, he enjoyed taking them to the local coffee shop, chasing trains through town, teaching them about cows and chickens and finally having his picture taken! He was so proud of his grandchildren and all they are accomplishing in life. He was able to see all of them about a week before he passed away. They brought him immense joy and happiness.
Don is survived by his wife of 68 years, Delores, his children, Randy Niederer, of Rock Hill, Mo., and Cindy (Dave) Stasell of Minooka, Ill., and his grandchildren, Kallie, Grace, Ben and Lucy.
He was preceded in death by his son, Terry Niederer, his parents, two sisters and other beloved family members.
