Elizabeth (Betty) Yolanda Giasi Sims Hickman

HEYWORTH — Elizabeth (Betty) Yolanda Giasi Sims Hickman, 74, of Heyworth, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on May 27, 2024, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on July 16, 1949, in Brooklyn N.Y., Betty was the daughter of the late Aurthur and Elizabeth (Hornyak) Giasi.

Betty was preceded in passing by her parents, her brother John Giasi, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Harry Fantauzzi, of Orlando, Fla.

Betty’s most important thing in the world was her family, and she dedicated her life to ensure that her family was always taken care of. When she wasn’t taking care of her family, she was making the community beautiful through her cosmetology business by doing hair and being a counselor of the soul by listening and giving guidance during the hair sessions.

Betty, in her spare time, loved gardening, crafts of all kinds, and going to as many grandkids’ events as she could.

She is survived by Derrick (son) and Celena (daughter-in-law) Sims of Bloomington; Dawn Sims Fantauzzi (daughter), and Robert Babak Haghgou (son-in-law) of Orlando, Fla.; David (son) and Riggs (daughter-in-law) Hickman, of Oak Creek, Wis.; her grandchildren, Madielynn Sims and David Crowe, Andrew Sims and Isabella Mariconi, Samson Fantauzzi, Selah Fantauzzi, Ivan Hickman, Athena Hickman, and many dear family and friends.

A celebration of Betty’s life will be held from 2-6 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, at the Wapella Community Center, in Wapella.

Betty’s kind spirit, generosity and compassion touched the lives of many. She will be deeply missed by her family, many friends, and all who knew her.
