Gerald “Jerry” E. Komnick, 78 of Clinton, passed away at 8:03 a.m. on June 1, 2025, at his family home in Clinton.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 9, 2025, at the Clinton United Methodist Church, Clinton, with Pastor Darrell Howard officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield. Visitation will be held from 4–7 p.m. on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton. Jerry has requested family and friends attend services in their favorite Hawaiian or tropical attire.

Jerry was born on March 30, 1947, in Carlinville, Ill., the son of Arthur B. and Marion E. Komnick. He married Rhonda L. Roady on October 6, 1979, in Cerro Gordo, Ill.
Survivors include his wife, Rhonda L. Komnick, Clinton; children, Matt (Beth) Komnick, Monticello, and Aaron (Katie) Komnick, Clinton; five grandsons, Aiden, Noah, Eli, Theo, and Levi, and brother, Marion A. (Rita) Komnick, Mesa, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Phil and David Komnick.
Jerry entered the U.S. Army in 1967, joining the Vietnam Conflict. He became a paratrooper and then an infantry squad leader. He was promoted to Staff Sargent (E-6) and was a Purple Heart recipient for being wounded in action. He was discharged in 1969.
For 28 years, Jerry worked for the Illinois Power Company. Starting in the Purchasing Department at Clinton Power Station during its construction and operation. He then moved to become the Director of Material Management for Decatur Memorial Hospital for 10 years. Jerry was always the happiest on his boat.
