CLINTON — Harold Duane “Arkie” Harris, 88, of Clinton, passed away at 7:32 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2025, at his family residence, Clinton.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Mausoleum Park Cemetery, Clinton, with Scott Marsh officiating. There will be no visitation. A celebration of Duane’s life will be held from 12 noon–3 p.m. at the Clinton Eagle’s following the graveside service. Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be directed to the Harold Duane Harris memorial fund or to the American Heart Association.
Duane was born on January 28, 1936, in DeWitt County, Ill., the son of Reo and Ruby (Smith) Harris. He married Rita Kathleen Maurer on January 5, 1957, in Clinton. She passed away on September 17, 2009.
Survivors include his children, Stan (Pam) Harris, Bloomington; and Jill (Chad) Martin, Clinton; five grandchildren, Matthew Harris, Bloomington; Abigail (Andrew) Clark, Sellersburg, Ind.; Hunter Martin, Clinton; Wyatt Martin, Clinton; and Margaret Martin, Clinton; and three great-grandchildren, Elliana Harris, Bloomington; Elias Clark, Sellersburg, Ind.; and Simon Clark, Sellersburg, Ind.; sister-in-law, Betsy Harris, Clinton; and nephews, Bret and Bart Harris, Clinton.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, son, Douglas Kent Harris, one brother and one sister, and two grandsons.
Duane retired from GTE after 41 years of service. He served on the DeWitt County Board and enjoyed fishing, gardening, making birdhouses, and spending time at his family farm of nearly 100 years.
