CLINTON — It could take months to identify and locate a next-of-kin to skeletal remains discovered December 24, DeWitt County Coroner Randy Rice told the Clinton Journal on Monday.

The remains were discovered December 24 in a wooded area located behind Arrowhead Acres Campground in rural DeWitt County, southeast of Weldon Springs State Recreation Area.

The case is currently in the hands of the Illinois State Police.  Rice said the agency was working to try to match DNA to a living relative.  Identification was found with the remains.

Rice said they believed they knew the identity of the person, but the nearest next-of-kin was deceased.  He said no information on the person would be released until postitive identification could be made.
