DECATUR — Leonard Lewis Spurling, Jr., 89, of Decatur, formerly of Kenney, passed away on May 31, 2024.
Leonard was born in Monticello, Ill. on January 9, 1935, the son of William and Mary (Milligan) Spurling. He married Linda Elizabeth Rhodes, and she preceded him in death in 1984.
Leonard was a welder and supervisor at Thrall Car Company. His greatest joy came from meeting up for coffee with his friends at the McDonald’s, in Clinton.
Leonard is survived by his sons Randy (Corissa) Spurling and Terry Vinson; daughters Patricia (Eric) Vaughan, DeeDee Stroud and Brenda Reyes; grandchildren Haley (Brendan Cassell) Vaughan, August Spurling, Finley Spurling, and many others; and many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, companion Showanda Polite, daughter Debra Clark, brothers Richard Spurling, Terry Spurling, and Linden (Red) Spurling, and two sisters.
Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home is providing cremation services for Leonard.
A graveside service in Kenney Cemetery will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 19.
