CLINTON — Paul O. Dunakey, 85, of Clinton, passed away at 2:26 a.m. on December 1, 2024, at his family home, in Clinton.
Visitation will be held from 5–7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton. Burial at a later date will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield.
Memorials may be directed to American Legion Post #103, Alzheimer’s Association, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Paul was born on May 15, 1939, in Clinton, the son of James and Mary (Hassinger) Dunakey. He married Sharon Reider on October 8, 1966, in Clinton.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Dunakey, Clinton; daughters, Lisa (Mark) Haymon Hastings Victoria, Australia, and Angela (Bill Lehman) Dunakey, Clinton; nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers.
Paul was a former Clinton police officer, volunteer firefighter, EMT with the Clinton Ambulance, and Boy Scout leader. After 26 years, Paul retired from the United States Army. He was the proud owner and operator of Donkey’s Woodcrafts.
