CLINTON — The Picture Perfect project continues at the C.H. Moore Homestead & DeWitt County Museum. The aim of the project is to restore the museum’s collection of photographs depicting people, places and things associated with DeWitt County history.
So far, sponsorships have paid for the restoration of 16 of the photos, and museum manager Joey Long hopes more people will sponsor additional photo restorations.
The age of the photos and conditions in which they’ve been housed have caused many to deteriorate, risking the loss of a valuable archive of local history. The photographs depict a wide variety of Homestead activities from the past and local history in general. As much as they do to try to control humidity, temperature and lighting conditions, some of the photos now show signs of deterioration.
Long wasn’t sure how many photos needed restoration. She said they would continue for as long as there were donations to cover the cost.
“Every one that gets saved, that’s good,” Long said. “I’m trying as much as I can to match up a sponsor with an image that means something to them.”
