CLINTON — DeWitt County has modified its residency requirement for the director of the county’s Emergency Management Agency (EMA), formerly known as ESDA.

The county public safety committee made the decision during its meeting on Jan. 16.

Local EMA director William Paveleck approached the committee about changing the requirement the EMA director reside within DeWitt County.  The county did not appear to have the same requirement for other employees.

“I was asked to live in the county and have been living in my apartment here in downtown Clinton,” Paveleck said.

Paveleck said he pays $1,000 a month for a one bedroom, one bath apartment in Clinton and would like to look at other options.

“Frankly, I haven’t found a lot of options in the county that are affordable,” Paveleck said.

He said he currently was looking at Maroa and parts of Decatur and, possibly, the south end of Bloomington.

“I’m still on the fence about whether I want to buy or rent again,” he said.
