CLINTON — After 34 years helping his customers with their insurance coverage through the various phases of their lives, Clinton American Family Insurance agent Ron Howell will retire at the end of April.

A native of Havana, Ill., for most of the past 34 years, Howell has driven to Clinton each day from his home in LeRoy to his office on Mr. Lincoln’s Square.

“I drive down; it takes me about 25 minute and gives me time to think about what my day’s got coming,” Howell said.  “And, on the way home, I’ve got 25 minutes to unwind.”

Before he got into insurance, Howell was a meat cutter at the LeRoy IGA.

“I was a manager for 11 years, and then I got this,” Howell said.

When he started, Howell was still cutting meat.  He would get off work at 4 p.m. and then go to work selling insurance for American Family from 5-10 p.m.

“As a meat cutter, you know a lot of people and make a lot of connections, and that helps,” Howell said.
