CLINTON — This past week has seen a flurry of activity in Clinton sports.
The junior high softball team is on track to begin its season with an 11-person squad practicing hard. And, just down the lane on the football practice field, both JFL (Junior Football League) and the high school football team have been working out in the cooler air.
The junior high baseball team was scheduled for tryouts starting this past Monday but were rained out for outdoor practice. And, of course, there was the ladies track and field fundraiser. Now, there is another camp in progress - band camp.
If that weren’t enough sports, check out the local area events. There is the Ursala Beck Tennis Competition at Decatur’s Fairview Park, The Fighting Illini practices open to the public on certain days, and this coming Saturday, August 4, the Third Annual Cornsbelters Legends Game in Normal.
For those not in the know, this is a game between Cards and Cubs legends from the past with a few local celebrities thrown in for good measure. This year has the largest lineup of legends in the short history of the game.
