Three-way tie in Maroons’ home triangular meet

Posted

CLINTON — Just two days after the Tragic Triangular Meet, the Maroons grapplers hosted another triangular amist the frigid weather

The opposition for this round of wrestling were the El Paso/Gridley (EPG) Titans and the St. Joseph/Ogden (SJO) Spartans.

This was also the Maroons wrestlers Senior Night.  The Maroons seniors were 3-year team member Kayleb Kent, son of Jennifer Peterson; 4-year team member Kael Morlock, son of Matt and Kim Morlock; and 2-year team member Dakota Spaugh, the son of Kisha Staley and Randy Spaugh.

First on the schedule were the hometown Maroons taking on the SJO Spartans.  This round of matches proved to be the tough round of the night for the Maroons.

The Spartans took command after a Maroon decision win and a pin started the round.  All the Maroons could muster was another pin and a couple of decisions.

The Spartans took the first round 48-30 over the Maroons.

The second round placed the Spartans against the EPG Titans.  This was the most exciting round of wrestling on the night.

The Spartans again appeared to be taking control, even having one match go into double overtime for the win.  However, The EPG Titans were not giving up and came from a sizable deficit to win the round 37-36.

The final round didn’t seem as tight as the second round until you checked the scoring.  The Maroons and Titans were tied 30-30 with two matches left.

Clinton came on strong and took the last two sets with pins in the first period and the second period respectively to win the match 43-36.

In triangular meets there is always a winner and loser and the in-between team at 1-1.  This meet ended with all tree teams at 1-1.
