I am writing to encourage readers to vote for Helen Michelassi on April 1.
There can be a variety of things that influence us to vote for particular candidates. We might know them personally, through work they have done, or values they hold. I am aware of reasons in all of these areas that influence me to vote for Helen.
I have known her since she was a student at Clinton High School. She has deep roots in and a love for the Clinton community. Much of her career has centered on Clinton and working to provide much needed social services to the area. Her life and work have been guided by what she knows is fair and just.
Several years ago, I became involved in the process of seeking social services for a disabled person who lives outside of Illinois. After three years of misinformation, lack of advocacy, and inaccurate guidance I turned to a trusted source, Helen. She knew rules and regulations related to what I needed, stated them in no-nonsense terms, and armed me with accurate information.
With the information she provided, I was able to confront those who had put up roadblocks, and I finally saw positive movements in providing services for my disabled friend. I detail this information as evidence Helen knows how to deal with administrative structures and works for the good of others.
Helen is straight forward, fair and works for what she believes is needed for people and her community. A vote for Helen is a vote for someone who loves her community and will work hard for it.
