LINCOLN — Smoke from numerous spots conducting burning earlier across Central Illinois combined with dirt and dust from dry ground and seasonal harvesting has caused hazy visibility and the odor of smoke on Oct. 9 in DeWitt County and surrounding areas, the National Weather Service (NWS), Lincoln, reports.

Smoke at higher levels in the atmosphere caused by western U.S. wildfires also constributed to a hazy sky and milky appearance across the northern half of Illinois, NWS reported.
