CLINTON — A grant that helped fund the local Youth Initiative program recently expired.  The City of Clinton, though, is looking for ways to continue helping finance the organization so local high school students continue their program of community service.

“We are no longer their fiduciary because the grant we were participating in dropped,” Commissioner Tom Edmunds said during last week’s city council meeting.  “So, they are using the YMCA as their fiduciary.”

Clinton Youth Initiative is a local program to help at-risk youth gain work experience and prepare those students for post-secondary education or employment opportunities.  The program also helps students learn skills and obtain work training.

In addition to the summer public service work students in the program perform, students also attend a weekly homework club during the school year.  Students attend an annual banquet at the end of each summer work schedule.
